Restorative Solution

A Restorative Treatment Option

Dental crowns are a reliable restorative solution when a tooth issue goes beyond what can be resolved with a simple filling or veneer. A dental crown serves the essential purpose of covering and rejuvenating a compromised tooth. We commonly use crowns on broken or fractured teeth, decaying teeth, broken fillings, or teeth with root canals.

Once securely cemented into place, the caps fully encase the visible portion of the tooth, extending at or above the gum line. This comprehensive coverage offers protection and restores functionality to the affected tooth. Dental crowns are renowned for their longevity and ability to provide a lasting solution.

What to Expect During Your Dental Crown Procedure

The dental crown procedure typically requires two appointments at our Novi, MI office. We take precise molds (impressions) of your tooth during your initial visit. These molds are essential for creating a crown that fits you perfectly. To protect your tooth while your custom crown is being fabricated, we fashion a temporary crown, which will remain in place for approximately two weeks.

Your dentist will then prepare your tooth by shaping its surface to ensure a proper fit for the crown. Once these steps are complete, we place your temporary tooth crown with temporary cement and verify that your bite is aligned correctly.

During your second appointment, we carefully remove the temporary crown, clean your tooth, and delicately affix your new tooth crown, guaranteeing that spacing and bite are accurately maintained. This process ensures the long-lasting durability and functionality of your restored tooth.

Dental Crown FAQs

Typically, crowns are made to look like your natural tooth. Some dental crowns are made of porcelain or resin, while others are made from gold or porcelain fused to metal.

This depends on many factors, including the location of the crown, your diet, and which material you decide to go with. Some crowns will last a lifetime, while others may need to be restored at some point.

Tooth crowns can be used for different types of teeth, including those partially damaged or completely missing. When only a tiny part of your natural tooth is left, we can use composite resin to build a strong foundation for the crown. This resin bonds well with your tooth enamel and forms a stable base called a “build-up.”
