Traditional Orthodontics
Orthodontics are wire-based appliances that are used to realign teeth and jaws and adjust crowded teeth. These appliances have brackets, ring-like bands, and flexible wires as components. Fixed braces are temporarily bonded to teeth.
The three phases of treatment are:
1. Initial placement of the braces,
2. Periodic adjustments,
3. Use of a retainer after braces are removed.
Many individuals choose to undergo orthodontic procedures as teenagers. Adults also benefit from braces, but results take longer, as their facial bones have stopped growing and their teeth are less susceptible to movement. Orthodontics can properly align teeth and jaws for an even bite and beautiful smile.
Orthodontics are a corrective treatment for:
- Misalignment problems that cause an uneven bite,
- Upper front teeth that bite behind the lower ones,
- Upper front teeth that overlap the lower teeth excessively,
- Excessive space between teeth,
- Crowded or crooked teeth.
Improved alignment can impact more than just the look of your teeth. It can also positively impact the way you bite, chew and speak.
Invisalign® Orthodontics
Invisalign® provides a less noticeable orthodontic procedure that is appropriate for minor corrections. After an initial evaluation, where all of your questions can be addressed, a series of clear custom trays will be made for you.
Each set of aligners is worn for 2-4 weeks, for 24 hours a day, excluding when eating, brushing or flossing.
A new tray then replaces the previous one after each period. Use of the trays as directed will straighten teeth in as little as three months.
Three to 12 months is generally the time needed to see results.
The best part of Invisalign® is that no one will know that you are using it.
Invisalign® offers a few advantages over traditional metal braces:
- No restrictions on the foods you can eat,
- Are removable for brushing and flossing,
- Uses smooth, clear plastic versus metal which may cause irritation to your mouth, cheeks and gums.
